Aviation Australia’s Cairns Aviation Skills Centre (CASC) opened in 2004 and caters for both domestic and international engineering students. Providing certificate and diploma-level aircraft maintenance engineering courses to enable students to kickstart their careers in the aviation industry, our Cairns aviation school features a range of aircraft so students can get the hands-on experience required to develop their engineering skills and knowledge.
The following aircraft are invaluable training aids that allow students to learn and carry out actual repairs and maintenance on real aircraft under the supervision of licensed and fully accredited training staff.
A private executive 6 seater jet
The Cessna 152 is a two-seat aircraft used primarily for flight training
A four seat, light helicopter for general aviation
A small twin turboprop business aircraft with 6 seats
A medium sized commercial utility helicopter, capable of carrying 14 people
Modelled after ATR Regional transport aircraft
Cairns Aviation Skills Centre students learn and develop practical and technical skills needed to repair aircraft structures.
Houses aircraft maintenance manuals for all Aviation Australia hangar aircraft and allows students to learn the correct use of maintenance manuals as required for the repair, service and maintenance of aircraft.
Student parking is available in the car park opposite the facility and in front of the Cobham Hangar.
Sunbus provides regular services from the northern beaches, south to Gordonvale. A convenient bus stop is available 200 metres from the campus (on the Captain Cook Highway).
A technical training reference library is available where library publications may be loaned on a short-term basis under the approval of a staff member. ‘On loan’ library materials are the responsibility of the student and students will be required to pay full replacement cost of any items lost or damaged.
All students will have access to computers at the discretion of Aviation Australia and in accordance with Aviation Australia’s policies and procedures. Computers & internet access are not available for use other than study related use.
