Aviation Australia currently holds an EASA part 147 approval allowing students to reduce the timeframe to apply for their licence from a minimum of 5 years to a minimum of 3.5 years.

The EASA Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) is a 90 week program which includes 1164 hours of practical maintenance training at Aviation Australia’s fully owned world class hangars. Students who successfully graduate will qualify for a Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (recognised Australia wide) and an EASA Certificate of Recognition (recognised world-wide for the purpose of the EASA Part-66 Licence application).

As an avionics student you will learn Aviation English, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic and Electrical fundamentals while also progressing into more complex and avionics related modules such as Aircraft Aerodynamics, Structures & Systems and Propulsion.

The practical maintenance training designed for this course will expose you to individual and team tasks in a live hangar where Aviation Australia’s Aircraft Maintenance Engineers will sign you off on your fully owned Journal of Experience.

  • Before you start – Additional assessment requirements:
    Some countries may require additional assessment requirements, such as a higher IELTS or equivalent level and/or student interview. You will be advised upon application if further details are required. Aviation Australia does not recommend sitting an IELTS before having received an offer.
  • Academic Suitability:
    Evidence of completion of Year 12 or equivalent, with a pass in Mathematics (at minimum Year 10 or equivalent). Where an applicant does not meet these requirements, Aviation Australia may consider sufficient relevant work experience (documented via a resume and referees) and/or a successfully completed higher level qualification that demonstrates academic suitability. Aviation Australia uses these equivalent international education achievement levels.
  • Minimum of 17 years of age:
    Applicants under the age of 18 may be accepted where it is demonstrated they will be under approved guardianship arrangements.   • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Assessment:
    You must address in writing all the questions in the GTE section of the application form that can be found here. You can find additional guidelines to structure your responses here.
  • Current Valid Passport:
    The applicant’s passport must be current and valid for at least 6 months from the course commencement date.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, you will receive:

  • European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Certificate of Recognition
  • Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Certificate of Recognition (optional add-on for $300)

These outcomes are highly regarded by airlines and Maintenance Repair Organisations (MROs) all over the world.

To qualify for an EASA / GCAA Licence, you will need to show an additional two years’ on the job training at an approved MRO.
