This is a hybrid course that covers the full elements of the mechanical trade stream as well as elective units from the structures trade stream. This is the perfect course for you if your passion is to explore the mechanics of engines and associated aircraft systems, including anti-skid braking and undercarriage systems, cabin pressurisation, fuel and pneumatic components, flight controls and hydraulics.
You’ll learn all there is to know about maintaining the physical structures that underpin the structural integrity of an aircraft. You’ll become much more than a glorified ‘panel beater,’ constructing everything from aerofoils to interior components, working with hi-tech materials such as carbon fibre, kevlar and aluminium alloys.
By the end of your course, you’ll have acquired the ability to both repair and maintain the aircraft systems from a mechanical perspective as well as produce, maintain, modify and repair aircraft using specialist skills that include sheet metal fabrication and bonding of metallic and composite structures.

Our aircraft maintenance engineering courses provide you with the essential training required to begin your aviation career in aircraft maintenance. Our instructors are highly experienced professionals, from Commercial and Defence aviation and aerospace industries.
Students will undertake the essential pre-apprenticeship, vocational theory training which goes towards the Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Structures & Mechanical) MEA41318.
The course delivery is tailored to also meet the CASR Part 66 basic knowledge syllabus. This delivery method ensures all examinations meet the CASR Part 66 requirements. If these modular examinations are passes, as per CASA regulatory requirements (75% or above), this gives the graduates several credits towards the application of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence in the future. The course is designed so graduating students will leave apprenticeship ready.
Aviation Australia has in-house Employment Service consultants who will help you connect with a range of industry contacts Australia-wide. They will work closely with you and assist with each step along the path to obtaining an apprenticeship.
We recommend to ensure successful completion of the course and improve your employability – students should maintain over 90% attendance and aim for above 75% on all examinations.

Permanent residents of Queensland who have the right to study full time may be eligible for the funding scheme applicable for this course.
Evidence of Australian and Queensland residency is required to be provided prior to enrolment. This can be a valid Australian Passport, an Australian Birth Certificate, or an International Passport with accompanying Visa Grant Notification/VEVO documentation, and a valid Queensland Drivers Licence and/or a valid QLD Adult Proof of Age Card (18+ card).
After completing the course, you will receive a Record of Results, which covers the theory components of part of your Certificate IV in Aeroskills. You will also receive a CASR Part 147 Certificate of Recognition for all CASR Part 66 basic knowledge examinations you have passed at 75% or over.
The remaining components of the qualification must be completed on-the-job in an apprenticeship. This includes practical training, and also may include some additional theory training. Once you have successfully completed all components of your apprenticeship, you can be issued with your Certificate IV qualification.
Class hours typically range from 7:30am to 3:30pm with an earlier finish on Fridays.
