AVI50519 - Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating)

This course is delivered by Mission Aviation Fellowship on behalf of Aviation Australia.

Working with Mission Aviation Fellowship’s team of experienced instructors – you will gain your Instrument Rating with instructors who have extensive flying experience and aviation industry knowledge to provide the most relevant and up-to-date instruction.

Mareeba’s ideal location offers proximity to controlled airspace, mountainous terrain and a true remote area experience, not to mention 300 sunny days per year.

MAF’s aircraft fleet and training equipment include:

  • Cessna 172’s and Cessna 182 G1000
  • Vulcanair P68R
  • Gipps Aero GA8
  • Redbird MCX Motion Flight Simulator

Candidates must:
  • Complete pre-course assessment (interview)
  • Hold a current CASA Class 1 Medical and Aviation Security ID Card (ASIC)
  • Hold a current valid Australian Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL)
  • Provide all CASA CPL examination results
  • Have completed a minimum of 1.0hr NIGHT experience as pilot in command, and 5.0hrs NIGHT Total*

* On request the MAF Training Centre can arrange night training prior to course commencement.

VET Student Loan applicants must meet additional entry/eligibility requirements. 

  • Complete pre-course assessment with MAF
  • Upon successful assessment, an offer to enrol will be provided
  • Submit online Enrolment Application with required documentation (including VET Student Loan eligibility documentation)
  • Receive Enrolment Confirmation / Statement of Covered Fees with further course information
  • Commence study (international students subject to immigration approval)

Mission Aviation Fellowship is a Part 141 and Part 142 CASA approved flight training facility at Mareeba Airport

Full Course including IREX Study - 10 June 2024
Partial course (RPL for a passed IREX Exam) - 08 July 2024

Study Modes

Self-Study

Self study for a minimum of 5 hours per week is required with access to a computer and reliable internet connection. Each study period needs to be completed before progressing to the next study period.

This is an intensive course; students are expected to complete additional revision on a regular (daily) basis. For minimal disruption, it is recommended that students do not undertake any employment whilst studying this program.

Face to Face

Face to face training is located at Mission Aviation Fellowship – Mareeba Airport. Flight lessons/briefings may be conducted at various aerodromes that may require travel. A minimum of 20 hours per week face to face training is required.

Training hours are between 7.50am – 4.30pm* Monday – Friday.

*Times may vary based on available flying and briefing hours.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you hold a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence, CASA Private Pilot Licence and/or a foreign pilot licence you may be able to have your previous studies, qualifications and experience assessed for certification against this course.
