Aviation Australia and CAE Malaysia Launch Groundbreaking Transnational Multi-Aircraft Maintenance License Program

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – May 1, 2025 – Aviation Australia, in partnership with CAE Malaysia, has launched a pioneering five-year transnational training program that provides a complete pathway from no prior aviation qualifications to becoming a Type Rated Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (B1.1), certified under both the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

The program addresses critical aviation engineering workforce shortages, particularly in Malaysia, a regional hub for heavy maintenance, by delivering international-standard training through an integrated, multi-country model. Students’ complete theory and hands-on training in both Malaysia and Australia, with ongoing support from CAE for Type Training and on-the-job experience, ultimately leading to dual certification under EASA and CAAM.

The program aligns with global efforts to build future aviation workforces and adds to a growing portfolio of workforce development initiatives in which Aviation Australia plays a critical role.

The official launch was marked by a signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, officiated by the Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Malaysia. The event was supported by government and industry leaders including NAICO, MARA, Austrade, and Trade and Investment Queensland. Aviation Australia CEO, Glenn Ryan, attended alongside key stakeholders and partners.

“This partnership with CAE Malaysia is a powerful demonstration of how global workforce solutions can deliver local impact,” said Glenn Ryan, CEO of Aviation Australia. “By investing in talent and delivering internationally recognised training, we’re supporting a sustainable aviation industry across the region.”

Graduates of the program will receive:

  • A CAAM Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance License with Airbus A320 type endorsement (Malaysian-registered aircraft)
  • An EASA Part 66 AML, allowing work on European-registered aircraft worldwide
  • An ASQA-recognised Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Line Maintenance)
  • A Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) report aligned with ICAO standards

This partnership builds on Aviation Australia’s growing presence in global aviation training, including the Qantas Engineering Academy (commencing January 2025), transnational programs in Sri Lanka and Vietnam, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Australia Modular Licensing Solution—a flexible pathway designed to help Australians access licensing and upskilling opportunities. Aviation Australia continues to work closely with state governments to support sustainable funding models for these programs.
