Aviation Australia’s Triple Finalist Success in A24 Aviation Aerospace Airspace Awards!

Brisbane Qld, 24 April 2024 – Aviation Australia is delighted to announce our selection as finalists in three categories for the prestigious A24 Aviation Aerospace Airspace Awards. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence within the aviation industry.

The nominated categories are:

Aerospace Gateway to Industry Schools Program for Outstanding STEAM Outreach Award

This award recognises and celebrates dedication and excellence to promote the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) through outreach either with an individual project or group program in the aviation, aerospace, or space sectors in Australia or Internationally.

The Gateway to Industry Schools Aerospace Program (the Program), delivered by Aviation Australia, is a STEAM outreach program that epitomises innovation and collaboration in the aerospace sector. Funded by the Queensland Government, Aviation Australia delivers the program in partnership with 27 public and private high schools across Queensland, over 50 industry partners, and a network of local Regional Training Organisation (RTOs).

The FAME program  (Female Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) for Diversity and Inclusion Award

This award recognises the incredible work of an organisation who has continued to show exemplary engagement with opportunities in diversity and inclusion across the sectors for the sustainability of the pipeline.

The FAME (Female Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) program works to increase female participation in training, the workforce and in leadership positions, by:

  • Advocating the need for greater inclusion and a diverse and sustainable talent pool
  • Promoting the role to females, especially school age students
  • Partnering with industry to provide informal and structured support to females interested in developing in the role and industry

The Cairns Aviation Skills Cadetship Program for Excellence in Innovation Corporate Award

This award highlights the unique factors that have made our Australian industry a leader in world aviation and aerospace innovation.

The Cadetship program pioneered in Cairns is the first of its kind in Australia and is part of a long-term strategy aimed at training and recruiting Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAMEs) in the Cairns region.

The Cadetship Program is a training collaboration between Aviation Australia (training partner), Skytek and Jet Aviation (business partners), and the Cairns Airport (industry partner).

Under the training collaboration, participants undertake a Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics/ Mechanical/ Structures) course, delivered by Aviation Australia. The delivery of the curriculum has been redesigned to embed industry perspective and practical, hands-on experience in collaboration with Industry partners. Students are matched with mentors and on successful completion of Certificate IV and guaranteed an apprenticeship.

Through industry integration and intentional curriculum design, it is anticipated that the pathway to becoming a fully qualified LAME will be reduced and the benefit of this cannot be understated given the critical workforce challenges in Australia and the region.

Being named finalists in three distinct categories underscores our collective dedication to the aviation industry and our commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals.
