FAME is changing the face of aviation
Aviation Australia is committed to increasing the number of women considering a trade pathway in the aviation industry. FAME is an aviation industry-first initiative designed to support and nurture our future female aircraft maintenance engineers as they build their careers in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Since it’s launch in 2021, FAME has delivered real outcomes from the first cohort , these include:
- Regular connection with industry representatives
- Opportunities for the students to get real life experiences
- Successful employment outcomes
- Establishment of genuine network with fellow FAME students across multiple locations
- Mentoring opportunities
- Financial support toward studies critical to many of the students
To ensure continue success of the program it is essential that Industry plays its part. Raising awareness and encouraging females to enter the field only works if employment outcomes are visible and promoted. The adage that you ‘Need to see it, to be it’ is directly applicable to engaging the current and future generations of skilled aviation mechanical engineers, who also just happen to be female.
