The E-Journal strives to make the journey to qualification easier for both the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering apprentices and their employers. This portal page is for all parties to learn more about the product and access some key resources.

Key Features

Apprentices

E-Journal key features for our aircraft engineering apprentices:

  • Web-based application – Create journal entries from any device; phone, tablet or laptop in the browser.
  • Overall progress – View your journal and progress in a summary view online. Plus you can export your journal progress as required.
  • A new way to find units – You will make entries via the new action based journal entry submission system.
    • Spend less time searching for tasks to claim for your pathway units.
  • A new way to make entries – Via the new unit of competency journal templates for compliance.
    • A “journal template” is a guide that has been developed for every workplace task to make it easier for you to meet the elements and performance criteria of each unit.
  • A 3-step digital workflow – For every journal entry submission.
    • Write an entry, select your approved supervisor and you’re off! You can view your pending entries.
    • The workflow will prompt regular feedback on whether your entries are meeting the unit requirements as you go!
    • If your supervisor or assessor needs more information, you will be prompted to resubmit your entry.

  • Notifications – In-app and email notifications let you know when key journal events happen.
    • This includes journal entries which require resubmission.

Employers

E-Journal key features for our engineering employers and supervisors:

  • Company Logins – Log in to the employer dashboard through assigned company logins.
    • Assign logins to your apprentice coordinators, managers and supervisors* (optional).
    • *Supervisors do not require logins to action sign journals, this can be configured to work direct from their emails.
  • Employer Dashboard – See your apprentices’ progress from a dashboard page.
    • View their overall qualification progress at a glance
    • Or go deeper and see unit-level progress.
  • Digital Signatures – Your engineering supervisors will digitally sign their apprentice’s journal entries.
    • Supervisors can approve or reject an entry with a comment explaining their reasoning as part of the 3-step digital workflow.
    • Email-based signature notifications, letting the engineer know when apprentices have submitted entries.

No, the E-Journal is a web-based application and is not accessible without internet access.

No, a separate journal entry is required for each workplace task that you complete with your employer. Each entry will be signed by your supervisor and verified by an Aviation Australia assessor.

If your supervisor rejects your entry, you will receive an email and it will appear as a rejected entry (in red) at the top of your journal next time you log in. You supervisor can leave a reason why, otherwise you will need to speak with them and resubmit your entry.
