The AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) is an ideal course for Domestic and International students seeking a pathway to a career in aviation. This course has been designed in conjunction with industry to ensure that upon completion you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge you need to fly as a professional pilot. Pilots with a Commercial Pilot Licence work in a diverse range of industry sectors – from agriculture and tourism to aerial surveillance and passenger transport.

This course includes both flight training and theory training – that means you will master the practical while engaged with the theoretical. This qualification reflects the roles of flight crew personnel performing normal and emergency commercial pilot duties in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations.

Flight crew duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations.

Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts and within broad but established parameters.

This qualification forms some of the requirements for certification as a commercial pilot by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing.

Study Modes

Self-Study

Self study for a minimum of 5 hours per week is required with access to a computer and reliable internet connection.  Each study period needs to be completed before progressing to the next study period.

This is an intensive course; students are expected to complete additional revision on a regular (daily) basis. For minimal disruption, it is recommended that students do not undertake any employment whilst studying this program.

Face to Face

Face-to-face training is delivered through Learn2Fly’s training facilities and partner airport locations. Theory instruction, briefings, simulator sessions, and practical flight training may be conducted at various aerodromes and training venues depending on the course and aircraft availability. Students should be prepared to travel to nominated training locations as part of their program. A minimum of 20 hours of face-to-face training per week is required.

Training is typically conducted between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm, Monday to Sunday*.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you hold a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence, CASA Private Pilot Licence and/or a foreign pilot licence you may be able to have your previous studies, qualifications and experience assessed for certification against this course.
