Airways Aviation offers training locations at Archerfield Airport, and the Gold Coast/ Lismore Airports.
Archerfield Airport : Located just 11 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, this is an ideal training hub that combines a unique four-runway layout with immediate access to complex controlled airspace.
Gold Coast Airport/ Lismore Airport : Students get the best of studying across two airport locations. Theory and simulator training is conducted at the Gold Coast Airport campus, and practical flight training is conducted at the Lismore campus. Students have access to a free inter-campus shuttle service.

The AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) is an ideal course for Domestic and International students seeking a pathway to a career in aviation. This course has been designed in conjunction with industry to ensure that upon completion you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge you need to fly as a professional pilot. Pilots with a Commercial Pilot Licence work in a diverse range of industry sectors – from agriculture and tourism to aerial surveillance and passenger transport.
This course includes both flight training and theory training – that means you will master the practical while engaged with the theoretical. This qualification reflects the roles of flight crew personnel performing normal and emergency commercial pilot duties in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations.
Flight crew duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations.
Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts and within broad but established parameters.
This qualification forms some of the requirements for certification as a commercial pilot by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing.
People seeking certification should check these requirements with CASA.
Occupations include:
Self study for a minimum of 5 hours per week is required with access to a computer and reliable internet connection. Each study period needs to be completed before progressing to the next study period.
This is an intensive course; students are expected to complete additional revision on a regular (daily) basis. For minimal disruption, it is recommended that students do not undertake any employment whilst studying this program.
Face to face training is located at Airways Aviation – Archerfield Airport, or Gold Coast and Lismore Airport. For the Gold Coast and Lismore, theory and simulator training is delivered at the Gold Coast Airport Campus, and all practical flight training is conducted at the Lismore Airport Campus, noting that there is a free inter campus bus service for students enrolled at the Gold Coast. Flightlessons/briefings may be conducted at various aerodromes that may require travel. A minimum of 20 hours per week face to face training is required.
Training hours are between 8.00 am – 7.00 pm Monday – Sunday*.

If you hold a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence, CASA Private Pilot Licence and/or a foreign pilot licence you may be able to have your previous studies, qualifications and experience assessed for certification against this course.
