RPL Theory

Please refer to your RPL report for guidance on what theory you will require.

To complete the theory component of your RPL, we offer two options:

• Self-study – Enrol into our online theory courseware and study at your own pace for the Part 66 final exams.
• Instructor-led classes – Enrol into our classroom where you are guided by our instructors to prepare for the Part 66 final exams.

Self-Study

Our full range of Study Material (CASR Part 66 & EASA Part 66) and Online Courses are available via our online learning management system (LMS) LaunchPad.  

Study Material Only

Study Material can be purchased individually, on a pay as you study basis, via our online store.

You will be prompted to Login or Create a LaunchPad account at time of purchase. If you already have a LaunchPad account with Aviation Australia you should Login using your existing details. 

Course access is 60 days. 

Study Material and Exam Packages

If you require all the CASR Part 66 or EASA Part 66 theory modules for a single sub-category/category of the B1 or B2 Licence then you may wish to consider the study material and exam package option. If you are removing E1, E4 and E5 exclusions from a CASR Part 66 B1 Licence and wish to self study you may wish to consider the study material and exam package option. Instructor-Led Classes

We have a range of instructor-led classes that you can enrol in, if self study is not suitable and you require further training and support with your theory. 

Scheduled Courses

The following courses are scheduled throughout the year:

• CASR Part 66 Module 10 – Aviation Legislation
• CASR Part 66 Module 16 – Piston Engine
• CASR Part 66 B1 Licence Exclusion Removal (E1,E4 and E5) Theory

Individual Modules

Instructor led classes for CASR Part 66 Modules are charged at $250 per day. This is inclusive of access to the online training material – however the examination/s are not included. Examinations will be charged at advertised cost.

RPL Practical

To complete practical requirements, you have the option to document on the job training (OJT) within your workplace, map your previous practical experience from schedule of experience (SOE) or journal of experience (JOE) or attend practical training at an Aviation Australia facility.

On The Job Training (OJT)

To perform OJT, you will need to print out Trade Unit Certification Sheets (TUCS) for each unit that you need to complete. These TUCS when combined, create your journal of experience.

Please follow the steps below to create your prepare for on the job training:

1. Read your Initial RPL Report to understand what Units of Competency (UOC) are outstanding for you to complete.
2. Download and read the RPL Report Guide to learn how to read your initial RPL report.

3. Download and read the Journal of Experience / TUCS Instructions document which also introduces the theory component of the TUCS and how to fill out a TUCS entry correctly.

4. (Optional) For additional guidance (recommended for RPL candidates) please download and read the Practical Evidence Mapping Guide which explains in greater detail how to meet the requirements of the TUCS and work history sheets required for practical evidence.

5. Download the Work History Sheet (WHS) template. As you complete tasks in the workplace you must fill out the WHS in conjunction with the TUCS. Use the template to print and fill out as many sheets as required.

6. Download each Trade Unit Certification Sheet required for your qualification. The following link will take you to a web page with every unit of competency, please download all of the units relevant to your RPL to build your journal of experience.

7. Download the Engineer Signature Register – This MUST be used to record all of your supervisors who are authorised to sign your journal of experience TUCS work entries.

Once you have completed your Journal of Experience (all TUCS are complete and signed), you must attach you journal with your application for the Final RPL Assessment.

Please note: some units of competencies have been updated and Aviation Australia has amended the relevant TUCS already. For example: MEACOM0043 has superseded MEA164. If you require any assistance on these changes, please contact us here: [email protected]

Practical Training

Scheduled Courses

You can attend scheduled practical training and/or assessment on campus to satisfy your outstanding MEA Unit of Competency practical requirements.

RPL Final Report

1. Once you have completed ALL the gap requirements identified in your Initial RPL Report, you can apply for your Final RPL Assessment Report. During this you must upload certified copies of your documents for final assessment leading to certification.
2. Please ensure you have met any relevant currency requirements that were identified in your Initial RPL Report.
3. Within 6 weeks:

• • You will receive your Final RPL Report
  • Aviation Australia will submit your Form 465 to CASA as applicable
  • Aviation Australia will issue your relevant certification (Certification will be issued within 30 days of the date of your Final RPL Report)

IMPORTANT – If, on application, all gap requirements have not been met (as identified in your Initial RPL Report), you will be contacted via email to provide any outstanding supporting documentation/evidence within 90 days. After which, you may be required to resubmit for Final RPL assessment which may incur additional fees.

IMPORTANT: If your Aviation Australia Initial RPL report does not highlight any additional gap training required, you will only need to pay the price difference between your Initial and Final RPL Assessment
